Outdated Music Review: The Doe Bay Sessions

I just came across these on my hourly procrastination break: The Doe Bay Sessions, where a bunch of Northwest artists performed and recorded in the woods/beach at Doe Bay in WA in August. The videos have been up since at least last week.

This is the kind of thing that makes the PNW music scene my favorite - hipsters playing music in the woods. I'm not being facetious - I love the unique sense of being both isolated back woods and international big city in Chief Sealth, and I love the music that reflects that combination. For my money, The Cave Singers are the best example, but all of the artists here are great little incarnations of that as well, in different ways. The videos highlight this, of course, b/c they're recorded in the woods.

Here are a couple of my favorites: Hey Marseilles, who are awesome and beautiful, and Black Whales, who are folksy and great song writers, and one of whom lives in my building because I live on Capitol Hill where it's impossible to swing a dead cat without hitting a good musician.
