Sonseed - Jesus Is My Friend - The first time I saw this video I couldn't believe it was real...it's just too perfectly awful. Some research on the interwebs confirmed that Sonseed was in fact a real band during the 80s though. This song is kind of odd in that Sonseed are co-opting 3rd generation ska which was never really popular in America until the 90s. Surprisingly, Sonseed are probably the least pathetic example I'm presenting - at least they get the feel of 3rd wave ska right. They're even playing on the offbeat, a lot of the popular ska-punk bands in the 90s didn't get that right.


The Renewed Mind Is The Key (I know Tim already posted this once but it's so nice it had to be posted twice) - I have no idea who these people are. I assume they're members of the church where this is taking place. This is just awful, white people poppin' n' lockin' is embarassing enough by itself. When you're also singing about Jesus and wearing dress cloths it elivates the routine to the absurd. Surely this HAS to be considered an afront to God somewhere.


Rick Pino - Terrible song medley - Have you ever seen the episode of South Park where Cartman starts a successful Christian rock band by taking mainstream songs and replacing random words with "Jesus"? The same thing seems to be at work here but it's not done for humourous effect. Granted, it is humorous but not intentionally. Then again, how can "You spin me right round Jesus, right round" being sung by a fat dude with a faux-hawk and Vanilla Ice hair layering not be humorous? The most stupifying thing about this video is that there are actually young people in the crowd and they're totally into it. Even when I did go to church as a tween/teen there is NO WAY I could have watched this without laughing. But these kids are eating it up! It's like a big, shitty rave where every one's rolling on a bottle cap full of JHC...that's Jesus H. Christ for all you heathens out there. The clip is almost 10 minutes long so you might not make it the whole way to the end. But you must, must, MUST watch to at least the five minute mark. It's worth it I promise.
